When you walk in the world of canals, you are really following an historic art trail, created by ordinary canal folk who would not call themselves artists. The unexplained origins of traditional folk art, 'roses & castles', add mystery to the landscape created by the awesome aesthetics of canal engineering. Even the quietly rusting signposts from a bygone era that line the towpaths are works of art that instill us with pictures of the past and give a flavour of working life on the waterways.
